Skate it up 70's Style at The Velodrome with the Detroit Roller Derby Team this Saturday

It's been just over one year since the Lexus Velodrome opened in Detroit. The 64,000 square foot venue had around "35,000 people go through the door last year". Dozens of races were broadcasted on Detroit Public Television and people from around the world traveled here to participate in events at the drome. They have also expanded and started to host all kinds of different activities, including roller derby, speed skating, bike polo, running, yoga, pilates, dance classes, and kickboxing. You can sign up for all of their classes online here. You can also head up to the space to experience a good old fashioned 70's skate party with the Detroit Roller Derby crew.

This Saturday, February 23rd, the Detroit Derby Crew is hosting a 70's themed event that will feature music, skating, and socializing inside the space. For $10 attendees can open skate for two hours and get one "free" drink from the Spoke Easy Lounge located inside the drome. The only catch is that you cannot rent skates inside the space, you must bring your own skates, rollerblades, scooters or skateboards to participate. Skating will take place from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. and the bar will be open until midnight. Costumes are encouraged and all are welcome. You can find out more about the event here.
