Win Tickets to See Thank You Scientist at The Pike Room

New Jersey based Thank You Scientist are currently out on tour in support of their latest album Stranger Heads Prevail. The album was released back in July on Evil Ink Records and is the second full length studio album from the band. You can hear some songs from the new record here. For more info on the album, check out this informative video from the band.

While on tour, TYS is not only hitting stages and wowing fans across the country, but they are also giving music lessons. This is something we've definitely never heard of another band doing before, but is an awesome opportunity for their fans. If you love Thank You Scientist so much that you want to jam with them and learn their skills, all you have to do is head over to their Big Cartel here and sign up for a lesson in your town. Lessons are $50 for everything except vocal lessons, which are $25. If you don't have time to set up a lesson while the band is in town, you can also arrange for a Skype lesson.

If you're a big fan of the band, but you'd rather just see them play music and not have them teach you how to play music, then you will want to head to The Pike Room in Pontiac this weekend! On Sunday, August 28th TYS will be hitting the stage along with Narco Debut and Young Pioneer. Tickets for the show are only $10 and can be purchased in advance fee free through Fusion Shows here.

Thanks to the fine folks at Fusion Shows, we are also giving away a pair of tickets to this show. If you would like to enter to win tickets, just send your name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with Scientist in the subject line.

All ages are welcome to attend this show and doors are set to open at 7 p.m.

Win Tickets to See Periphery at St. Andrew's Hall

I have been a fan of Periphery for a while now. They are known for their progressive rock style, but in my book they should be known for their drummer. Matt Halper is one of the most creative and solid drummers I have ever seen. Watching him live is a privilege and a mind trip if you can appreciate a great drummer. One of the coolest videos I have ever seen is of him setting up in the middle of the street at SXSW 2012 and making a crowd go crazy, check it out.

He's much more than a drummer in my book. If you love progressive music and or a great drummer you must see this band perform live this Wednesday, February 4th at St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit.  The band is performing alongside Nothing More, Thank You Scientist, and Wovenwar (formerly As I Lay Dying). Tickets for the show are only $27 in advance and can be purchased here. We also have two pairs of tickets to give away to the show courtesy of Live Nation Detroit. To enter to win those tickets, please email your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com. Please include Periphery in the subject line so that we know which giveaway you are entering to win because we have a lot of of them this week!

Win Tickets to Coheed & Cambria at The Fillmore

Progressive rockers Coheed & Cambria are currently on tour performing their landmark album, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, in its entirety across the USA and in Toronto. This is a band known for making concept albums, this album is based on graphic novel series written by lead singer Claudio Sanchez. The general plot of the album is as follows:
"Ten years after "Second Stage Turbine Blade", son Claudio emerges from the depths of Shylos Ten, the Fence's "quiet" planet where the Red Army performs its brutal interrogations and imprisonments. In finding out that his entire family has been murdered, Claudio begins his quest for vendetta. His foes, Supreme Tri Mage Wilhelm Ryan and General Mayo Deftinwolf sense that he is still alive and holds special powers. They know they must stop him before he defeats them. Meanwhile, Inferno (Jesse Kilgannon) takes up arms against the Red Army (“Man your Battlestations”) in an effort to seek the same kind of vengeance on him. In Claudio’s re-emergence he teams up with Ambellina, the Prise who is selected by her peers to be his guide. The pair along with Sizer, a disassembled IRO-bot, seek out Inferno to find answers as to why his family were killed, but their plans take an unexpected turn in a ship called the Camper Velourium, and a freighter pilot named Al the Killer".
Coheed & Cambria will be playing The Fillmore on September 30th with Thank You Scientist. Most of the dates on this tour are already sold out and the ones that aren't completely sold out are selling out quickly. Tickets for the show range from $40-60 and can be purchased here. We also have two sets of tickets to give away to two lucky readers courtesy of Live Nation Detroit. To enter to win these tickets you must email your full name and what tickets you are entering to win to hipindetroit@gmail.com. We will draw a winner a few days before the show and email them details on how to claim their prize. Good luck!
