Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: August 2 - 4

We already told you about Kimball with Handgrenades, Deluxx Fluxx's 1 Year Anniversary, and the Not Going Back fundraiser for Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. Well, here are some other awesome things going on this weekend!

Saturday, August 3rd - Midas @ Outer Limits Lounge: If you haven't seen Detroit's own Midas play live yet, this Saturday is your chance! This band is still newer to the scene, but features members of Bison Machine and Wild Savages. The guys just got back from tour and are ready to play Hamtramck along with Astral Hand (MKE) and SLO. Heavy & Beyond will be DJing throughout the night as well. Cover is $5 and doors open at 8 p.m.

Saturday, August 3rd - Detroit Oddities & Curiosities Expo: Are you into things that are a bit odd? Then this expo is for you! The Detroit Oddities and Curiosities Expo will be taking over the Suburban Collection Showplace for one day only! At this expo, you will find everything from taxidermy to artwork to "creepy, strange and bizarre items". Tickets are $20 and the show takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday, August 4th - Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! Record Show #4 @ The Sanctuary: The best record show around returns to The Sanctuary this Sunday afternoon! The Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! Record show is put on by some of the biggest music enthusiasts in Metro Detroit. The show will feature over 30 vendors selling vinyl, cassettes, music, VHS, vintage shirts, posters, and so much more. The Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! Record Show Takes Over The Sanctuary this Sunday

For the past couple of years, the Facebook group Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie has been a place where music fans and collectors can come together to buy, sell, swap, and trade items. In the group, members can post vinyl, CDs, or cassettes, and the more rare they are, the better. Well, now the group is moving from the internet to a physical location for their first ever record show!

The Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! Record Show will take place this Sunday afternoon at The Sanctuary. The show will host 16 private vendors and 8 record shops, including Village Vinyl, Flipside Records, B-Bop Records, Culture Clash Records, FOUND SOUND, Record Graveyard, Traxnwax, and Weirdsville Records. All of the vendors will be selling all sorts of music related items, like vintage shirts, posters, CDs, VHS, cassettes, and of course, records. And, judging by what we've seen in this group in the past, you'll have a chance to get your hands on some pretty awesome items! You can get a sneak peak of some of the goods that will be up for grabs here.

Doors for Sunday's record show are set to open at 11 a.m. and it will go until 5. Admission to this event is free, so you'll be able to use all of your money to shop! You can also buy some drinks from the bar while you're there, and if you get hungry, there will be pizza for sale for $2 a slice. The Sanctuary is located in Hamtramck at 2932 Caniff. For more info on this show and to keep an eye on what will be for sale on Sunday, RSVP to the Facebook event here

Your Record Collection is Getting Bigger this Weekend!

Do you need more records? Better, question... Who doesn't need more records? This Saturday, October 19th head out to Henry Ford College in Dearborn for the WHFR.FM Record Show. The radio station is hosting their annual record show that will feature thousands of records from local and out of state vendors. Yes, some vendors won't even be from the area. That means that album that you've been searching for everywhere might just be in your hands this weekend.

From 9 a.m. 'til 4 p.m. you can flip through the bins to see what goods you can find. Admission is only $5 for the early birds getting there at 9, then the admission price will range from $1-5 the rest of the day. As with most shows like this, there will also be music memorabilia and other music related goods available. There will probably even be some cassettes, 8 tracks, and CDs available.

Henry Ford Community College is located at 5101 Evergreen in Dearborn. For more info on the 7th Annual WHFR Record Show, click here. For more information on 89.3 WHFR.FM and their programming, click here
