Val's Pizza Has Taken Over Framebar

Are you a fan of wood-grilled pizza? There are many benefits to cooking in a wood-fired oven, one of which is flavor. A rich smoky flavor can be achieved by using different types of wood for the fire. The pizza pie cooks very quickly giving the crust a smoky, crispy taste on the bottom and around the edges. Fire-grilled is unique, special and something everyone has to try once. So, Framebar invited Val's Pizza for a residency to give everyone the chance to see what wood-grilled is all about.
You have just under one month to visit Framebar to try Val's pizzas, salads, cheese plates, and breadsticks. You can either dine-in with them or carry out your meal. They have a drive-up pickup station behind Joebar and an easy-to-use reservation service on their website to make finding a way to visit simple. You can preview the entire menu and place an order here. Note that they have vegan and gluten-free options, so there is a little something for everyone on their curated menu.

Val's Pizza will be popping up at Framebar Wednesday through Sunday through March 6, 2022. You can stay on top of everything Val's Pizza is doing by following them here. You can stay on top of all the great pop-ups and residencies at Framebar by following them here.

Khana has Taken Over FRAMEbar

FRAMEbar (aka Joebar) is known for inviting unique chefs into their kitchen to cook up creative menus of small plates, curated wines, beers and unique cocktails. Their latest residency Khana is known for altering and elevating traditional Pakistani/Desi recipes. Together they have constructed something special that you can only try for the next couple of weeks. For their latest takeover, chef-in-residence Maryam Khan has created a 100% halal menu of Pakistani fare via casual shared plates. This includes a few vegan options as well as lamb, fish and chicken dishes. They also have something sweet for dessert.

The best way to enjoy this popup is to bring a friend or two so that you can try a little bit of everything. For our first visit we kept it vegan and tried the chaat and the nachos (vegan style upon request).  We loved both dishes and have been dreaming about the nachos ever since we left the restaurant. They had a hearty, salty and sweet taste that woke up our taste buds in the most magnificent way.  They also paired really well with the campfire margarita. Most importantly, we got to try a bunch of things that we don't usually cook or enjoy at home which is what makes going out so delightful.

Khana will  be popping up at FRAMEbar through February 6, 2022. You can book a reservation to visit here. They are currently open 5 p.m. -10 p.m. on Wednesdays,  5 p.m. -11 p.m., Thursday -Saturday and 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Sunday. Daily, bar seats, high tops, and the heated patio are available for walk-in service. Follow FRAMEbar on Facebook or Instagram for their latest pop-up info.

Celebrate 4/20 with a Happy Deal from Joebar

Do you remember the excitement of getting a Happy Meal when you were a kid? Not only did you get your own perfectly portioned burger or nuggets with fries and a drink, but you got a surprise toy too! Sure, you knew what the theme was, but would you get the toy that you really wanted?

Joebar in Hazel Park is bringing back that excitement we experienced as kids, but to adults. Every Tuesday, they offer a $10 Happy Deal. The deal usually is comprised of an amazing specialty burger, fries, and a Miller High Life. And, of course it wouldn't be happy if there wasn't some sort of surprise that came along with the meal. So, Joebar teams up with other local businesses to offer a "toy" for adults that comes with each meal.

This week, in honor of 4/20 and those that like to celebrate with a little flower, Joebar has an extra special Happy Deal. They have teamed up with their neighbor New Standard Cannabis for this week's toy. The burger is also extra special and is called The Luau. It features classic Joebar patties topped with American Cheese, Pineapple Chutney, Lettuce, and Honey Sriracha.

If you want to celebrate 4/20 with a $10 Happy Deal, you have to pre-order your meal here. Pre-order starts at noon and pickup begins after 4 p.m. Joebar is located in Hazel Park at 23839 John R. To stay in the loop on Joebar's weekly $10 Happy Deals, follow them on Facebook and Instagram

Hip in Detroit Checks Out Joebar

We've been meaning to stop by Joebar ever since it opened its door in Hazel Park last March. The unassuming space serves up original cocktails, dip sandwiches, and cold beer. Their finely curated menu features soup, salad, a few sandwiches, a few sides and a couple of dessert options, but it also somehow seems to have something for everyone. Personally, I wanted to stop int to try their BBQ Jackfruit Burger. While many restaurants are beginning to offer a vegan option on their menus, few are stepping outside the comfort of a black bean or impossible burger.

This restaurant features open seating and patrons can take a spot anywhere they can find a table. That means that there is a good chance that you might be sharing a table with another couple and you might have to spend some time hanging out at the bar before you can get a seat. But don't worry, they let you grab a cocktail while you are waiting and  have a few couches and chairs to make you more comfortable while you do.

We were lucky and immediately scored a spot at the bar where our server promptly gave us menus and explained how things worked. We started the night with a round of cocktails and I was delighted by their cider cocktail feature that included McClary's Drinking Vinegar and while strong, it went down way too easy.

For our main meal, we each ordered a sandwich with both regular and sweet potato fries on the side.  My Jackfruit burger was more delightful then I could have ever imagined and the fries, while salty, were also delicious. They were just a little well done and crunchy, exactly how I like them. The house fries were skinny and long while the sweet potatoes fries were fat and short, I liked both, but would definitely go with the sweet potato fries if I had to choose. My dining mate enjoyed the BLT with avacado and tried a bite of my sandwich out of curiosity.  After she sampled both she declared that when she came back she would definitely be ordering the Jackfruit sandwich, despite her love of meat.

We both grabbed a second round of drinks and couldn't finish all of the food that we were given.  When the bill came I was even more pleased to find out that the drinks, food, and sides were all very reasonably priced and two specialty drinks and a full meal only cost me around $30. I would highly suggest visiting Joebar the next time you want to have a good drink and unique meal in a low key place with solid service, alcohol, and desserts!

Joebar is located at 23839 John R. in Hazel Park. The bar also features special menus and events, you can keep up with what they are up to here.
