Say Goodbye to Cellarmen's this Saturday Night

Nearly four years ago, we had a chance to tell you about a cool new brewery that would be opening its doors in Hazel Park. The building was unassuming and the guys behind the bar joked that they wanted you to feel like you were hanging out in an old man's basement. Although the paneling on the walls may have given you that feel at first glance, this place was so much more. Over the past four years, Cellarmen's has hosted amazing shows, held great comedy nights, and brewed some awesome beer, cider, and mead. They truly made their mark on Hazel Park and helped with the growth of that city.

Sadly, as they say, all good things must come to an end. After this weekend, Cellarmen's will be closing their doors in Hazel Park. But, they aren't going out quietly. They will be holding one last kick ass show this Saturday, July 27th, which they're calling Cellarmen's Last Rites. The bill will feature S.N.A.F.U.FELL RUINSixkillsnine (Members of Keelhaul and Child Bite), SLOB, and Behind The Times will kick off the evening. El Taco Dojo will also be on site serving up delicious food and, of course, there will be great drinks on tap. The brewers have been getting new drinks up daily as they bid farewell to the space. Keep an eye on their Facebook page to see what is on tap and what will be available this Saturday night.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for Saturday's show and 21+ are welcome. Cover is by donation, with a suggested donation of $10.

Thank you to the guys of Cellarmen's for taking a chance and making something awesome happen. Along with many, we are sad to see you go. Take a trip down memory road to the first time we had a look inside Cellarmen's and met three of the four founders, including the late Jason Petrocik.

Berserker IV Feature - Fell Ruin

A combination of black metal, progressive metal, and heavy, grinding doom, Detroit's own Fell Ruin is a band you definitely need to check out! The band features Jeff McMullen on bass, Rob Radtke on guitar, August Krueger behind the drums and Brian Sheehan on vocals. They just released their sophomore album entitled To The Concrete Drifts. You can give it a listen below and then pick up a physical copy at Berserker this weekend.

We had a chance to ask the guys in Fell Ruin our batch of Berserker questions. Read ahead to see what they had to say then head up to The Pike Room on Saturday night to see them on stage.

HID- What two words best describe your band?
Fell Ruin- "Four. Bears."

HID- Why should people check out your set at Berserker?
Fell Ruin- "We just released our new album entitled To The Concrete Drifts. April 15th will be our first show in support of."

HID- What’s the best part about playing a fest like this?
Fell Ruin- "Shawn and Veronica annually assemble a grand music fest, showcasing some of the best national and local prestige. It's an honor to perform."

HID- Are you looking forward to checking out any of the other bands on the fest?
Fell Ruin- "Looking forward to Eyehategod, Immortal Bird... our friends and peers in Sunlight's Bane, Sweat, Nightkin, Boreworm... etc. In short, we will be there for the duration."

HID- For those Berserker goers that might not have heard your band before, name one of your songs that they should definitely check out.
Fell Ruin- "Our set is to consist of songs exclusive to our new album. We encourage you endure in it's entirety."

HID- The lineup for this year’s Berserker is pretty epic. If you could have any four bands headline a fest, who would you pick?
Fell Ruin- "Tom Waits, Emperor, Bohren and... Alanis Morissette? The response to this question may or may not reflect that of the other band members."

HID- What else should people know before they check out your band at Berserker?
Fell Ruin- "We open The Pike Room stage on Saturday. Cometh."
