Break Anchor & Arm Your Enemy Release Show at The Berkley Front!

Tonight you have a chance to catch some great bands that you probably haven't seen play the Detroit area in awhile. For $6 you can get in the door at The Berkley Front to see 6 great bands. The lineup includes Arm Your Enemy, Break Anchor, The Dewtons, Cruise Italy, Trace The Veins and Dick Hickey

This show is in celebration of new releases from both Break Anchor and Arm Your Enemy. The new one from Arm Your Enemy is a 7 song EP called Vanguard. It will be free with admission to the show. You can also check it out on their Bandcamp and download it for free. Break Anchor is releasing a new 7" at this show, which we are thrilled about. Definitely can't wait to get our hands on some new music from those guys! You can pick one up too if you head out tonight!.

Doors at the Berkley Front open at 8:30 p.m. with Dick Hickey kicking things off at 9. Make sure you head out early because this is a solid lineup from start to finish. Not to mention, The Front has an incredible beer selection! (I highly suggest getting a Snakebite; Cider & Stella combo.) For more details on this show, head over to the Facebook event page.

Whoapocalypse 2013 Ticket Giveaway

A few months ago I had the honor of being asked to make a tiny guest appearance in a music video shot by Gold House Media for a band called The Mizzerables. I got to hang out at the Toepfer House with the guys and shoot a couple scenes. I had a great time getting to know the band and being part of the whole experience.

I have been waiting for them to announce when they were going to release the video so I could see what they had put together and was excited to find out that they are doing it up right and throwing a good old fashion show to unleash their creation on the world.

This Saturday, July 13th they are throwing a party called Whoapocalyse 2013. They are releasing the video and giving you a chance to check out a bunch of the bands on Whoa Records. They are playing alongside Bottle Kids, Due North, Cruise Italy, Wrist-Rocket and P.T.'s Revenge to entertain you for the night. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The show starts at 7 p.m. and goes to 1 a.m. The video for the Mizzarables new single, "Bottoms Up", will be played in full that night. Token Lounge will host this event and it is located at 28949 Joy Road, Westland.

You can purchase tickets in advance here or enter to win one of two sets that we are giving away to our readers. To enter to win, simply email your full name to hipindetroit@gmail.com with the subject line 'Whoa Records'. We will draw two lucky winners the day of the show and email them details on how to claim their prize.

Few And Far Between

Years ago, Few and Far Between could be seen playing around town on any given weekend. They were a staple at some of the best shows I saw playing with bands like Small Brown Bike and Heads Will Roll before slowing down their schedule and taking a step back from the spotlight. Half of the band still lives here in Detroit and the other half lives in NYC. This helps explain why throwing the gear in the van and heading out to play a show isn't as easy as it used to be.

Now when I hear that they are performing, my ears perk up and I make a point to make it out to the show. The reality is that you can't be sure how long it will be fore they book another gig. That's why I am so excited that they are playing at Small's in Hamtramck on November 21st with Old Mission and Cruise Italy. They have recorded a Split 7" with Cruise Italy that will be for sale at the show. You can download their full body of work on iTunes. Their best known record is  “We're All Safe”, but their entire collection of music is worth the money. Tickets for the November 21st show can be purchased at smallsbardetroit.com and are only $7. This show is 18 and over, so you can get in if you are under 21! For more information and updates you can follow the Facebook event here.
