The Concert of Colors is Still Free and Fun

For 27 years straight, the Concert of Colors has been bringing together the City of Detroit to celebrate music and diversity. This annual event is sponsored by The Arab American National Museum in partnership with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Institute of Arts, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, ACCESS and the University of Michigan – Detroit Center. The festival's goal is to, "unite metro Detroit’s diverse communities and ethnic groups by presenting musical acts from around the world."

The nine-day long event will take place on multiple stages across the city. The main stage is located at the Detroit Film Theatre at the Detroit Institute of Arts with supporting stages at the DIA (north lawn, Rivera court, Kresge Court), Charles H Wright Museum, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Historical Society, Michigan Science Center, Scarab Club, International Institue of Metropolitan Detroit, and The Arab American National Museum in Dearborn.
This year's event officially kicked off last night with a Tiny Desk concert sponsored by WDET, but there will be a lot more to experience over the next 8 days. You can see the full schedule of events here. Some of this year's highlights include a screening of the 2019 documentary: God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines – The Story of Detroit Techno, a low rider display in front of the DIA, and a live performance by Shigeto. There is even a film about Grace Jones being played at The DIA on Tuesday.
The Concert of Colors is a family event and it is free to attend. You can see a full schedule of everything fun you can do over the next 8 days here
