Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: March 15-17, 2024

Friday, March 15th - Attack Hunger @ Small's: Attack Hunger this Friday night at Small's and help raise money for Food Not Class. This benefit show features music from Ska't Ya Covered, The Boy Detective, and Aggro or Die. Cover is $10 with partial proceeds going to Food Not Class. You can also bring food donations or throw them a few bucks extra to help the cause. Doors open at 7 p.m., the music starts at 8, and 21+ are welcome. 


Friday, March 15th - The Fillmore Detroit Showcase @ The Lexington: Head to The Lex this Friday for a night of great music from some of your favorite faces from The Fillmore Detroit. The lineup includes Second Body, David Allie, and El Jefe Brujo. Doors open at 8 p.m. and admission is free. It's rare to have the chance to see David Allie perform live, so don't miss it!


Friday, March 15th - The Dollyrots @ The Sanctuary: The Dollyrots are about to wrap up their Spring Fling 2024 tour, but first they are making a stop in Detroit! They will be hitting the stage at The Sanctuary this Friday night along with Detroit's own The Boreouts and Bathroom of The Future. Tickets to see this great show are $25 and you can pick yours up here. All ages are welcome and things kick off at 7 p.m.


Friday, March 15th - Rogue Satellites @ Reware Vintage: Head to our favorite shop in Berkley this Friday night for a great show! The lineup features Rogue Satellites, Buried Lights, 3 The Hard Way, Sam Rubin, and Permanently Pissed. All ages are welcome. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 8 p.m. Cover is free, but feel free to make a donation to the bands! 


Saturday, March 16th - Totally Rad Vintage Fest @ Huntington Place: Spend the day shopping with vintage vendors at Huntington Place this Saturday during Totally Rad Vintage Fest! There will be dozens of vintage vendors at the event, and many of them are even from out of state! There will also be a freeplay arcade, the Rad Rewind Museum featuring fun relics from the past, and plenty of photo ops. Tickets are start at $8 and can be purchased online here. Doors open at 10 a.m.


Saturday, March 16th - Haute to Death @ Marble Bar: If you're in the mood to dance, look no further than Marble Bar this Saturday night! Haute to Death will take over the bar along with their special guest for the evening, Fort Romeau. Tickets are $11.45 in advance and available online here. The party starts at 9 p.m. and goes until 3.

Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend - June 10 - 12

Friday, June 10th - Adam Padden's "Oh No! It's The Rapture" Release Show @ The Lexington Bar: Adam Padden (of Tart, Handgrenades, & many more) is celebrating the release of his new solo album this Friday night! He'll be playing The Lexington Bar along with Bad Magnets and Patrick Davvy. Cover is $10, doors open at 8 p.m., and 21+ are welcome. The Lexington is located in Woodbridge at 5063 Trumbull. Friday, June 10th - Extra Arms Release Show @ UFO Factory: It's a big weekend for new music in Detroit! Extra Arms will be celebrating the release of their new album What Is Even Happening Right Now? Friday night at UFO Factory. They will be joined by The Casket Lottery, Kind Beast, and 84 Tigers. Cover is $10 and doors open at 8 p.m. Give the new album a listen here. (P.S. We're seeing a pattern with these album names... Could the craziness of the last couple of years had an influence?)


Saturday, June 11th - Bathroom of the Future EP Release Show @ Ghost Light: Last but not least in the new release list is Bathroom of the Future who will be celebrating the release of their new Maclunkey EP at Ghost Light. Joining them are Rodeo Boys and Lily Livers. Cover is $8 and things kick off at 9 p.m. Give their new tunes a listen here


Saturday, June 11th & Sunday, June 12th - Motor City Pride: Motor City Pride returns to Hart Plaza this weekend! The two day festival will feature live music, a parade, and more. Some of the acts performing this year include Metawav, The Doozers, and Jax Anderson. Check out the full entertainment schedule here. The parade will take place on Sunday at noon, starting at Fort & Griswold and making its way to Hart Plaza. Admission to the festival is $5 and free to those 12 & under. Saturday, June 11th - Gravity Art Fair & Skate Contest: Check out some art, grab food from a food truck, and watch awesome skateboarders this Saturday afternoon in Ferndale. The Gravity Art Fair & Skate Contest will take place at Geary Park in Ferndale from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. this Saturday. Some of your favorite local artists and makers will be setting up shop on site while Modern Skate & Surf hosts Skateboard, Scooter, BMX & Inline Skate contests. Admission is free. Friday, June 10th & Saturday, June 11th - Corktown Music Festival Summer Days: The folks at Corktown Music Festival had so much fun earlier this year that they decided to do it all over again this weekend. They will be taking over four Corktown Venues for two nights with over 60 bands. $20 gets you in for the whole weekend. Check out the schedule here

Friday, June 14th - James Linck @ The Old Miami: You know that if James Linck is playing a show, we're going to tell you about it. He will playing at The Old Miami this Friday night along with Goldzilla, Duane, and Jaws That Bite. Cover to see these four acts live is only $5, 21+ are welcome, and doors open at 9 p.m.






Friday, June 14th - Miz Korona @ PJ's Lager House: The legend herself, Miz Korona, will be returning to the stage to perform at PJ's Lager House this Friday night. She will be joined by the Korona Effect, along with Finale, Dssense, and Nix. $15 will get you in the door. 18+ are welcome and doors open at 8 p.m.






Saturday, June 15th - Bathroom of the Future @ The Sanctuary: Bathroom of the Future is releasing a new album and they're celebrating the release at The Sanctuary this Saturday night. Joining them for the night are The Dewtons, Young Hunger, and Labour Day Weekend. Cover is only $5 and all ages are welcome. Get a sneak peek of the new album by checking out the first song released off of it, "Star Wars 2".




Saturday, June 15th - A Fundraiser for Girls Rock Detroit @ Small's: Girls Rock Detroit is an awesome organization helping to train the next generation of musicians right here in Detroit. This Saturday night, Black Iris Booking and Small's have teamed up to have a fundraiser for the group. Wiccans, Immaculate Conception, Dark Serenity and Seritas will all be performing and they are asking for a $10 minimum donation at the door. 18+ are welcome and doors open at 8 p.m.


Saturday, June 15th - Free Moon Taxi Concert @ Beacon Park: Throughout last summer, Beacon Park hosted some great events, with some of the most popular being their free summer concert series. Well, this Saturday night they will bring another great free concert to their stage. This time around, Moon Taxi will be hitting the stage along with The War & Treaty and Empty Houses. There will also be market vendors, and food and drinks available for purchase. Things kick off at 6:30 p.m.



Sunday, June 16th - Teenage Bottlerocket @ Small's: The weekend isn't over until your alarm goes off on Monday morning! Black Iris Booking will bring Teenage Bottlerocket to town to play Small's on Sunday night along with Ramona USA, S.U.B., and Smash The Jukebox. Tickets are $14 and can be purchased in advance here or cover will be $16 at the door. All ages are welcome and doors open at 7 p.m.

Win Tickets to See Pkew Pkew Pkew at Small's

Pkew Pkew Pkew is a band that not only has an awesome name, but also plays some awesome music! Based out of Toronto, this band is considered the "Lance Armstrong of music". They just played a string of shows at SXSW and they are getting ready to head to Europe for the first time, but first they are making their way to Detroit.



Pkew Pkew Pkew is set to hit the stage at Small's this Sunday night. Joining them for the night are The Purps and Bathroom of the Future. Cover to see these 3 great bands live is only $8. You can also save that 8 bux if for a drink or two if you win tickets to the show. Thanks to our friends at Black Iris Booking, we are getting one person into this show with a friend for free.
