Hip in Detroit's Picks for the Weekend: January 5-7, 2024

Saturday, January 6th - Eastside Elvis @ Cadieux Cafe: Celebrate Elvis' birthday a couple of days early with Detroit's own Eastside Elvis at Cadieux Cafe! This Saturday night, the Eastside King of Rock 'N' Roll will be joined by Winestoned Cowboys. Cover is $10 and doors open at 8 p.m.


Saturday, January 6th - Thirst Wave David Bowie Night @ Small's: Another legend has a birthday coming up on January 8th, the one and only David Bowie! This Saturday night, Thirst Wave will honor the Space Oddity himself with a special Bowie tribute night. Resident DJ's Pleasure Kitten, Aaron Hingst and special guest DJ Mikey will be spinning a blend of New Wave, Retro Alternative, Dark '80s & '90s Alternative, with a special emphasis of the music of Bowie. Doors open at 9 p.m. Cover is $5 for 21+ and $10 for under 21. 


Saturday, January 6th - Jackson & The Poolsharks w/ Hung Up @ Lager House: Hung Up hits the stage at the Lager House this Saturday night along with Jackson & The Poolsharks and Nina Sofia (Nina of Nina & The Buffalo Riders). Doors open at 8 p.m., the music starts at 9, and $10 gets you in. All ages are welcome, but those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  


Saturday, January 6th - Michigan Hardcore 10 for $10 at The Sanctuary: Head to The Sanctuary this Saturday night to see 10 great hardcore bands for just $10! The lineup includes Barefaced, Dead Hang, Headcount, Luck Runs Out, Peace Offering, Slice, Suffer No Fools, Vacate, Under The Knife, and one more band that's still a mystery. Doors open at 5 p.m. Get your tickets in advance here


Fridady, January 5th - Sunday, January 7th - Valade Fire & Ice Festival: Join in some winter fun this weekend at Valade Park for the Fire & Ice festival! The event has a medieval theme, complete with turkey legs, axe throwing, and Renaissance Festival performers. For the little ones and Disney lovers, Elsa from Frozen will be there too! There will also be ice carving, and a 7 foot ice structure that will become a giant bonfire once lit at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Fire & Ice festival takes place Friday from 4-8 p.m., Saturday from noon - 8 p.m., and Sunday from noon - 6 p.m. Valade Park is located on the eastside of the Detroit Riverfront at 2670 Atwater, between Chene and Joseph Campau.
