Detroit Welcomes the First Women's Comedy Festival

Female comedians have never gotten the credit they deserve. Instead, they have had to work twice as hard and be twice as funny to get the recognition that they have earned. Fortunately, things are changing and the females aren't taking the second seat at the table anymore. We are out there creating our own rules and changing the way everything is done. Comedy was another boys club that was bound to come to an end. So, why not help the inevitable along by celebrating funny women?

The first ever Detroit Women of Comedy Festival wants to do just that! The four day celebration of funny females will features over 150 female comedians, improvisers, and performers, including a few recognizable names like Mama’s Boy (Second City Hollywood), with special guest Stephanie Courtney, “Flo the Progressive Lady", Maribeth Monroe (The Good Place, Workaholics), Nancy Hayden (Detroiters), Jaime Moyer (KC Undercover), Shantira Jackson (BET’s 50 Central), and Christy Bonstell (Shameless, APB).

There are tons of different events running each day of the festival, this includes classes, lectures, readings, stand up, and improv. Tickets can either be purchased for individual events or you can buy a weekend pass and come and go as you please. All of the events will take place in Hamtramck at Ghost Light, Ant Hall, Bank Suey, and Planet Ant. Proceeds from this event will be donated to Girls Rock Detroit to help support the next generation of bad ass females.
