We are always looking for the next big thing in Detroit so we can tell you about it before anyone else does. We get a lot of music submissions emailed to us and we try to go through all of them, although it can be hard to keep up with everything. A few weeks ago, local artist Britney Stoney emailed her music into our website and attached a video of herself singing one of my favorite Amy Whinehouse songs, "Valerie."
This immediately caught my eye and I emailed her back to learn more. Britney is 23 and hails from Detroit, Michigan; she is a singer songwriter that has recently released an EP called Birds that is available for download here.
Britney Stoney has teamed up with 2 other female singer songwriters and 3 female hip hop artists for an event this Sunday called Goldslum: The Loft Sessions: Queen Edition. This event will feature Britney along with Dej Loaf, Bevlove, Mahogany Jones, Jade Lathan and Yo Skyy.
The show will go from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and is only $5 with dollar drink specials. The address is 1440 Gratiot in Eastern Market. We were pleasantly surprised when we heard Britney sing and we think you will be, too!
