Invest in a New Home for DCFC

A few months ago Detroit City Football Club announced that they would be making Hamtramck their new home. The team has played at Cass Tech High School for the last 4 years, packing the stands to capacity at nearly every game this past year. Since they actually had to turn fans away at the gates this past season, they decided that the time has come to move to a larger facility.

The organization has decided that not only are they going to make a new home for themselves, but they're also going to help the community out. They are planning to renovate Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck. The stadium is turning 80 years old in 2016, even FDR was a part of its grand opening. Over the years it has been the site of many games, including the home to Hamtramck Public Schools' teams. With the improvements that DCFC plans to make to the facilities, it will not only be a great place for them to host their games, but Hamtramck Schools will continue to own and use the stadium as well. So DCFC gets a new home and the kids in Hamtramck get a new stadium too!

The repairs that the team plans to make include structural repairs and renovations, electrical and lighting, restoration of old bleachers, repair and renovations to the locker rooms, and more. The cost of these improvements is going to be $750,000. DCFC is looking to the fans and community to help raise this money. The minimum that they need for the project is $400,000. Right now they have raised approximately half of that. Although this is a crowd funding campaign, you won't be receiving a cheesy key chain or autographed photo. You will be an actual investor. And you will get your money back, plus some. Detroit City Football Club pledges to, "repay the RSA investors 21.00% of their gross revenue, excluding sponsorship-based revenue, semi-annually until such a time that investors have received a 1.35x repayment multiple on their initial investment." The deadline for raising the $400k is February 15, 2016, so they've got a ways to go, but there is also some time left. Check out the video below for more info.

If you would like to invest in DCFC's new home, head over to the crowd funding website here. There are some other perks for investors. Check out what you can get below:

$250 - A guaranteed ticket to our May 2016 match with FC United of Manchester

$500 - A Limited, numbered commemorative Scarf

$1,000 - Invite to VIP reception with FC United of Manchester

$5,000 - Your name on a plaque alongside the one that celebrates the opening of the stadium

$ 10,000 - Two season tickets at premium midfield location for the duration of the loan

$25,000 - 4 season tickets at premium midfield location; access to hospitality tent for 4 guests

$50,000 - A section of the West Grandstand seating named after your family or business with signage

$100,000 - A banner of your family or company vertically located on light tower

Since this isn't a normal crowd funding campaign and you would be considered an investor, you might have some questions. Some of those can be answered here or you can head out to one of the Keyworth Investment Happy Hours. There will be five happy hours total, with the first on November 30th at Suzy's in Hamtramck. During these happy hours the DCFC owners will be on site to answer all of your community investment questions. Here's a list of all of the DCFC investor happy hours.

Spring will be here before we know it and so will the 2016 DCFC season! Season tickets and single game tickets are available now. Pick yours up online here. We can't wait for another DCFC season and look forward to seeing this project completed!

A Benefit for The Sanctuary

A few weeks ago one of our favorite venues in Detroit was the victim of a horrible crime. The DIY venue The Sanctuary was robbed. The intruder took money, important documents, and almost made the venue close its doors. Luckily, due to support from the community and crowd funding efforts, the money was replaced. It was actually replaced plus some. So not only can the venue stay open, but now they are determined to make The Sanctuary better than ever.

Since everyone loves this place so much, the community still wants to help out even more! So this Sunday, November 29th there is a benefit show for The Sanctuary at The Sanctuary. The lineup includes DetainBreaking WheelSons of Southern DarknessThreadingOutside and Souls Denied. The organizers of the event are asking for a donation of $5 at the door, but you can always give more!

Doors are set to open at 6 p.m. The Sanctuary is located at 1501 E. Outer Drive in Detroit.

If you haven't bee to The Sanctuary yet, this is a great reason to head out to check it out! If you can't make it out this Sunday, we urge you to go to a show there very soon!

Spend and Extra Ordinary Night with James Linck

I have been writing about the Detroit's music scene for almost four years for hipindetroit.com. Throughout the last four years many people have asked, "So Sadie, who is your favorite Detroit artist?" And, every time I have given the same answer, "Mr. James fucking Linck, duh!"

James Linck and his jamz can be hard to describe. I have seen his music labeled as R&B, bedroom pop, alternative, and hip hop, but I don't really think any of those descriptions fit James. He is way more than any of those categories. He is a talented dude who writes witty songs about love and breaking up, growing up, and life. He mixes high notes with fresh beats and churns out beautiful sounds. He is always creating something new, writing clever versus and gathering inspiration from some of the weirdest places.

Tonight he will be performing at UFO Factory. He is kicking off a new series of shows that will happen bi-monthly called Ordinary Days. The goal of this event is to help Detroiters get up close and personal with the artists that we love. The guys behind the series have been filming James during his "ordinary days" and they will release a video about James after the event. Check out the teaser for the show and head out tonight to see my favorite artist for the last four years. He is one of a kind!

Get Into The Landmarks' EP Release Show for FREE!

The Landmarks have been hard at work recording a new EP and they are finally ready to release it this Friday at The Old Miami. The guys have been working with Gordon Raphael this time around, he has produced albums for The Strokes and Regina Spektor, so he's kind of a big deal. On top of that, they also brought in outside musicians for orchestral arrangements for some of the songs. So apparently this time around the band decided to go big or go home and we can't wait to hear it!

If you would also like to hear new tunes from The Landmarks, head out to their release show this Friday. Admission is only $5 and 21+ are welcome. They will be joined on the bill by Nina & The Buffalo Riders, Five Pound Snap and The Bruised Reed. We are also giving away 2 pairs of tickets to this show! If you would like to enter to win, please email us at hipindetroit@gmail.com with your name in the body and The Landmarks in the subject. We will draw 2 lucky winners the morning of the show and will email them details on how to claim their prize!

Doors are set to open at 9 p.m. on Friday. The Old Miami is located at 3930 Cass in Detroit. For more info, click here

Catch Allie X at The Shelter this Wednesday

I'm a sucker for a good pop star. I may have been raised on punk and metal, but I have always had an attraction to the beats, the dancing, the outfits and everything else that makes up pop perfection.

Allie X is one of my latest discoveries. She's pretty, she's weird as hell and her music is fun. She reminds me of early era Lady Gaga fused with Body Talk era Robyn, a perfect combination!
She will be performing at The Shelter this Wednesday, November 18th. I think this is one of those rare opportunities to see a star before they really start to shine. Check out a few of her awkward music videos and consider heading out to see her live this Wednesday!

Tickets for the show are available here.

Flint Eastwood's Album Release Party for "Small Victories" was a HUGE Victory

Saturday night it finally went down, Flint Eastwood released their latest album Small Victories to a packed room of over 700 people! First and foremost, congratulations to everyone involved, this was a record breaking turnout and one hell of a show.
Parlor Tricks kicked off the show and got the already hyped crowd warmed up for the night. Then Seth the Syblyng took the stage with an eclectic mix of Detroit talent, including BevloveBritney Stoney, Mic Write, Passalaqua, Duane: The Brand New Dog, Gosh Pith and Kopelli. This was one of the highlights of the night for me. I didn't know what to expect and watching each artist come out and belt out their track or verse was not only entertaining as hell, but it was also inspiring. Seth is a major talent that knows how to bring out the best in people. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PROJECT, YOU MUST CHECK IT OUT!

Next up was Tunde Olaniran. Tunde performed with our favorite two dancers, Emma and Cintell, and killed it as usual. He even rocked some epic new neon hair color for the night. We had a chance to walk down the street and chat with the man behind the music at Assemble before the show. Check out what he had to say and make sure to pick up a copy of his latest album Trangressor, which was release this past August.

Finally, it was time for Flint Eastwood to take the stage! Jax came out like an explosion and didn't miss a beat. She performed 5/6 songs from the new EP Small Victories before moving into a mix of older stuff, including some great tracks off The Baptism. Finally, she ended the night with my favorite song of the new album, the title track "Small Victories". Jax had the entire room moving and dancing for over a hour and a half.  It was an epic performance and a celebration.

I stood on a chair in the back and grabbed a song from Tunde and Jax. The sound isn't the best, but these clips give you a look inside the show!

Cheers! That was one hell of a night!

Detroit Unplugged: Her Dark Host

Last month hipindetroit.com, InkAddict, and Blumz by JRDesigns teamed up to bring you the first of a series of Unplugged shows that will take place at The InkAddict Flagship store in Ferndale, Michigan. The first Unplugged featured The Handgrenades, if you missed the show you can check out a video recap here. We had a feeling that watching one of Detroit's best bands unplugged and up close would be pretty amazing, but it was better than we imagined it would be. If you were in the room that night you already know, that shit was magical!

For the second installment we decided to take this series in a completely different direction. This time around we are proud to present Her Dark Host Unplugged.
Her Dark Host is the brainchild of Justin Felix, Joshua Felix, Kyle Davis, Nathan Miller, and Austin Ahmad. Their live shows are usually dimly lit and you can smell the band from down the street. They bring a lot of incense and create a mood wherever they perform. They are the definition of showmen, they bring something extra to the table. If you haven't heard their music please check it out here.

We have been following the band for awhile and quickly became fans after seeing them live. We think that they are going to be the perfect band to put on a truly unique unplugged performance. They are no strangers to a candle lit room, but surrounded by dark Blumz, we hope to take their stage performance to a new darker and sexier place. After booking the show we were please to find out that all of HDH's songs were written acoustically, so this performance promises to be quite a treat! Please join us on November 30th at 8 p.m. to share a once in a lifetime experience together.
The performance is only $2 to attend, with all proceeds going directly to the band. This event is BYOB. The InkAddict Flagship Store is located at 22007 Woodward Ave. in Ferndale.

Show Your Love for Beards at Detroit's Circus of Whiskers

Let's be honest, over the past decade beards, mustaches, and facial hair in general have been all the rage. You can find all sorts of quirky items with mustaches on them, and women and men across the globe go gaga over a man who look like lumberjack. Of course you have some people that still love a clean shaven face. But whether you love it or hate it, facial hair is here to stay!

Facial hair has become such a "thing" over the past few years that there are now several companies that specialize in beard balm, beard oil, mustache wax, beard butter, etc. Keeping that fur on your face has become an art and an obsession for some.

Well, this Saturday we want you to head out to the Tangent Gallery to celebrate beards, mustaches and all facial hair at Detroit's Circus of Whiskers: A Facial Hair Competition. The event is being brought to you by Murder City FHC, a new facial hair club right here in Detroit. The night will feature competitions in the following categories: Natural Moustache, Styled Moustache, Partial Beard, Mutton Chops, Fake Beard (for the whiskerinas), Groomed Beard, Styled Moustache, Full Beard Natural (Under 6"), Full Beard Natural (Over 6") and Freestyle. In addition to the competition, there will also be belly dancers, fire performers, and music by Fishgutzzz & his Ignorant Band and Willa Rae & The Minor Arcana. The organizers of the event are encouraging you to dress up, and they said the weirder the better!

Admission to the Circus is $15 and proceeds will be donated to Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG), an awesome organization helping dogs and all furry friends. Those 21+ are welcome to attend and the evening will be MCd by comedian Ray Hollifield. The fun is set to start at 7 p.m. For more info on this event, head over to their website here or RSVP to the Facebook event here.
